2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined direction.
The president noted that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
Trend of Key Hires
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the complete content from Ismailer's communication:
Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”
Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last fall’s the game testing phase was revealing. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the criticism to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The trust in this project grows every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. Following some time of conversations, he starts with us on the specified date.
His leadership and experience in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having devoted the recent years developing and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in welcoming him next week. We are all eager to persist seeing the development of the game in the weeks to ahead.
David
